Privacy policy

This policy describes how Lake Pulse ("Lake Pulse," "we," "us") handles information when you visit lakepulse.co, use the Lake Pulse portal or mobile app, purchase from the Lake Pulse Toolbox, or contact the Boathouse.

It does not apply to third-party websites, labs, or services we link to. Those parties operate under their own policies.

• Account information — name, email address, password credentials, lake and location details, and subscription level.
• Order information — items purchased, shipping address, and order history. Payment card details are handled by our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers.
• Lake data — measurements, sample results, photos, notes, and historical records you or your association upload or that we collect on your behalf.
• Support communications — messages you send through forms, email, or the Boathouse.
• Technical data — device type, browser, IP address, and usage events collected through cookies and similar technologies.

• Provide, maintain, and improve the platform and the Toolbox.
• Process orders, shipments, returns, and subscription billing.
• Analyze lake data and generate dashboards, reports, and trends.
• Respond to questions and provide Boathouse support.
• Send service notices and, if you opt in, newsletters.
• Detect fraud, protect the service, and meet legal obligations.

You retain ownership of the lake data you provide. We use it to deliver the service to you and your lake community.

We may use aggregated or de-identified data — data that cannot reasonably identify an individual, a specific private property, or a specific private lake community — for research, benchmarking, and improving analysis methods.

You may request an export of your records at any time by contacting us.

Posts, photos, and Bloom Reports you submit are visible to other members of your lake community and to your Lake Admin. We remove location and device metadata from photos, and record Bloom Report locations at the nearest shoreline, not your exact position. Don't photograph identifiable people, license plates, or private property.

The app uses your location only when you choose to submit a report or view nearby lakes. You can turn location access off in your device settings.

Lake Index, a private analytics tool, compares your lake with nearby lakes. Other lakes are never named, and we don't show a comparison when too few lakes are included to prevent a lake from being identified.

We do not sell personal information. We share it only:

• with service providers who host, process payments, ship orders, perform lab analysis, or send email on our behalf;
• with your lake association or organization when you join under their account, limited to what that role requires;
• when required by law, subpoena, or to protect rights and safety; and
• in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how the site is used. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies; some features may not work if you do.

We keep personal information as long as your account is active and as needed for the purposes described here, then for the period required by tax, accounting, and legal obligations. Lake measurements are retained as a long-term record unless you ask us to delete them.

• Access, correct, or export your information.
• Request deletion of your account and associated personal data.
• Unsubscribe from marketing email using the link in any message.
• Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or state privacy statutes. Contact us to exercise them.

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information we hold, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Information collected at sign-in

• Contact information — email address and any username or identifier you provide to request access.
• Portal type and role — whether you are signing in through the State Agency, Partner, or Boathouse Admin path, and your stated role or organization.
• Technical data — IP address, browser type, device information, and sign-in events to help protect these restricted pages.
• Support messages — any question or access request you submit through the Contact Lake Pulse link or related forms.

How we use this information

• Verify who you are and authorize access to the correct portal.
• Communicate with you about your account, access requests, and portal updates.
• Maintain security, detect unauthorized access attempts, and investigate abuse.
• Improve the sign-in experience and troubleshoot entry-page issues.
• Meet legal, regulatory, or contractual obligations.

When we share this information

We do not sell personal information. We may share it only:

• with Lake Pulse staff and authorized administrators who need it to provision or support your access;
• with service providers that host the site, send email, or help us detect security threats;
• with your affiliated organization when your access is managed through their account; or
• when required by law, subpoena, or to protect rights and safety.

Retention

We keep restricted portal information for as long as your access is active, plus a reasonable period to support audits, security reviews, and legal obligations. You may request deletion of your personal information by contacting us.

The service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the "last updated" date above and, for material changes, notify account holders by email or in-product notice.
