Overview
Lake Tag is a pocket-sized Bluetooth clicker that logs a timestamped, geotagged observation to your lake's Lake Pulse portal in under a second. No app to open, no form to fill in, no photo required.
Lake Tag is a third-party solution from Naughtweed that Lake Pulse brings to our subscribers. The clicker pairs with the Naughtweed app on your phone and works in the background. Three presses (single click, double click, and long hold) each log a different type of observation. Your Lake Admin sets what each press means in the Naughtweed app after purchase.
Logging by tapping in the app works too, but most people prefer to leave the phone in a bag or dry box and use the clicker.
Hardware plus annual subscription. Your purchase includes the clickers and one annual Naughtweed data subscription, which sends observations to your lake's portal. One subscription covers every clicker in your order, whether you buy 1, 5, or 20, and renews through Lake Pulse at $50 per year per account, however many clickers you have. What problem does this solve for our lake?
- The most valuable observations on a lake are made by people who aren't monitoring it. Someone notices discoloration off the point, a dead fish, a plume behind a boat, or weeds where there were none last year, and then does nothing, because doing something means stopping, unlocking a phone, opening an app, and filling in a form while the boat drifts.
- Almost all of that information is lost. Not because people don't care, but because the effort outweighs the moment.

Pro tips
- Buy in packs and hand them out. One clicker on one boat produces anecdotes; thirty across the lake produce a map. One subscription covers the whole pack.
- Set press meanings before handing them out, and say them out loud. For example: single click for a suspected invasive plant, double click for discoloration or scum, long hold for anything that needs follow-up.
- Press first, describe later. The whole design premise is that the moment passes quickly.
- Clusters are the signal. Individual presses are noise; five in the same bay in a week is where you sample.
- Give them to anglers and early risers. They're on the water at dawn, when blooms and fish kills are most visible.

Results can help you make decisions about safe swimming and water use, but no result is definitive for every place and time.
