The bloom starts days before anyone can see it. This is what watches for it.

Lake Sentinel is a lightweight solar-powered monitoring buoy that reads six water variables every 30 minutes and streams them straight into your lake's account. It weighs about eight pounds, drops in the water without a crane or a technician, and is typically deployed in under an hour by whoever is available.
The sensors work by fluorescence. Chlorophyll-a indicates algae generally; phycocyanin is specific to cyanobacteria, the blue-green algae that produce toxins. Reading both means you can tell a harmless green algae bloom from the one that closes a beach — and you can see it building while the water still looks fine.
Lake Sentinel is leased, not sold — the only item in the Toolbox on that basis. Lease periods are 1, 3, 6, and 12 months.

A cyanobacteria bloom is a fast event with a slow warning. Cell counts double in days, and by the time the water turns, the decision has already been made for you: close the beach, cancel the regatta, explain it to the membership. What continuous bloom monitoring changes: • You see it building. Phycocyanin rises before visible surface scum. That lead time is the difference between a planned response and a reaction. • You can distinguish the blooms that matter. Chlorophyll-a alone tells you there is algae. Phycocyanin tells you it is the kind that produces toxins. Most lakes have green algae all summer and no reason to worry about it. • You get an evidentiary record. A documented history of clean readings is worth a great deal to a shoreline community — and a documented bloom, timed and measured, is what supports a grant application or a treatment decision. • You stop relying on someone noticing. Blooms concentrate downwind and often start in a corner nobody visits. A buoy does not take weekends off. Where this fits against the rest of the Toolbox: a lab panel tells you what is in the water on one day with defensible precision. Lake Sentinel tells you what is happening every half hour with less precision. Both are true, and the useful pattern is the buoy for detection and a lab panel for confirmation once something shows up.
Lake Pulse sells measurement and monitoring — not treatment or remediation. What you buy here positions you to solve the problem, and to prove whether it worked.
