Overview

A commercial-licensed, solar-powered, solid-state weather station with no moving parts, installed in minutes, built for weather a lake community shares. It measures temperature, humidity, dew point, wind speed, direction and gusts, rain onset, intensity and accumulation, barometric pressure, UV and solar radiation, and lightning with strike distance up to 25 miles.

It is licensed for organizational use by associations, HOAs, lake districts, marinas, businesses, and local government, which is what putting live readings in front of neighbors requires. The hub connects over Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet and has extended range between station and hub, so the station can sit at the end of a dock or on a point rather than beside the clubhouse.

Readings stream to your lake's portal and the Lake Pulse app, where everyone on the lake can see them, including free Members. They are charted in the Analytics Hub under Trends alongside your water-quality record and can trigger alerts. Supplied by Tempest. Buy it, set it up on Wi-Fi, and it runs, with no separate data or forecasting fee.

What problem does this solve for our lake?

  • The weather most lake communities rely on comes from regional airport stations, miles and a microclimate away from the water.
  • Weather is the forcing function for nearly everything in a lake. Wind and solar radiation drive stratification and bloom conditions. Rainfall size and timing determine nutrient loading. Wind, gusts, and lightning distance determine whether it is safe to be on the water.
  • A shared station answers the everyday safety question for every household at once, instead of private stations giving separate answers nobody else sees.
  • For the lake's record, it is the meteorological backbone that ties bloom risk, runoff, and swimmer safety to measured inputs rather than inferred ones. Weather is what turns a water-quality record into an explanation.

What's included?

  • Commercial-licensed weather station sensor: solar powered, solid-state, no moving parts
  • Hub with Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet connectivity, with extended range between station and hub
  • Commercial use license covering organizational and shared use
  • Lifetime data access and forecasting, with no separate fee
  • Onboarding into your lake's portal, with the parameter set mapped to the platform's time-series views
  • Live readings in the portal and the Lake Pulse app, visible to everyone on your lake, including free Members
  • Configurable alerts

What's not included

  • Mounting hardware. The mount ships separately; contact Lake Pulse.
  • Installation and the mounting structure
  • Network service or power at the hub location
  • Cellular connectivity. Contact Lake Pulse about the cellular option.
  • Water quality or lake level of any kind. This measures the atmosphere.
  • Regulatory or compliance-grade meteorological monitoring
  • Treatment, remediation, or applicator services

Requirements

  • A mounting position with clear exposure: open to wind and sky, away from buildings, trees, and roof heat
  • 4 GHz Wi-Fi or a wired Ethernet connection at the hub location
  • A mount, ordered separately from Lake Pulse
  • A Plus, Lake Admin, or PRO subscription. Syncing a real-time device to a Lake Pulse account requires one of these tiers. Once synced, readings are visible to every member of your lake, including free Members.
  • Contact the Lake Pulse Boathouse if you have questions.
What you get back

Results

  • Hyperlocal, real-time conditions for the lake, shared with everyone in the portal and the Lake Pulse app, including free Members. The meteorological drivers of lake health (solar radiation, wind, rainfall) feeding bloom, stratification, runoff, and turnover analysis. Live wind, gust, and lightning-distance readings for on-water safety awareness. Recent values and historical trends in the Analytics Hub under Trends, plotted alongside your water-quality data.

Pro tips

  • Site for the lake, not the building. Open exposure over water is worth more than any hardware upgrade.
  • Use the extra range. The hub can stay at the clubhouse or pump house while the station sits where the wind actually is.
  • Wire the hub where you can. Ethernet removes the most common cause of gaps in the record.
  • Wind and solar radiation are the two channels to watch for lake health. They set up stratification and bloom conditions, and they are why this belongs next to a buoy.
  • Agree up front who owns the station and who maintains it. A shared station is shared infrastructure.

About these results

Every reading is time-stamped as it is recorded. Readings come from one sensor at one location; conditions elsewhere on the lake can differ, sometimes sharply and within hours. Sensors drift, foul, and occasionally fail, and readings between maintenance visits may be affected. Gaps in the record are shown as gaps, never filled in. Sensor values are field measurements, not laboratory analyses. Alerts are notifications of a reading, not a safety determination.

Results can help you make decisions about safe swimming and water use, but no result is definitive for every place and time. It is always good practice to check posted signs and your state or local health authorities.
